West Coast Adventures

Yellow-Eyed Penguins & barracuda?!

Our final event in Invercargill, New Zealand was with Forest and Bird Southland branch and we were really looking forward to this event. Our hosts Chris and Brian Rance were very welcoming and Chris showed us their own conservation project before our evening lecture at the Forest and Bird AGM. They have created their own […]

Fjordland Part II: A shark in the lake!

We also enjoyed two other day walks along different sections of the Kepler Track in Fjordland and, each time, the forest was slightly different and offered new views with rivers that rushed past us in a flurry of strong currents, ripples and cold blue water. Te Anau had received exceptionally high rainfall during our visit […]

Fjordland Part I: Forests & Fungi

What an incredible surprise we had in Fjordland after travelling there from our events in Invercargill. It is fair to say we were pretty weary when we arrived in Te Anau and the staff at the YHA Te Anau hostel kindly offered us a room for our stay. We were beyond excited at the prospect […]

2200 Steps to Recovery

After a busy and successful round of events in Christchurch, we took some time away from our computers to explore the stunning scenery of New Zealand’s south island. We made the most of the glorious Easter sunshine and visited Akaroa, Lake Tekapo and Mount Cook National Park. We found ourselves constantly shouting ‘view’ as each […]

25th Friends for Sharks Event

We are celebrating our 25th shark conservation event and what a way to celebrate…with an event at Ao Tawhiti Unlimited Discovery school, Christchurch. This fantastic school made us very welcome, the students really enjoyed themselves and they kindly donated £50.50 to Friends for Sharks. They also gave us shark art and some beautiful vegetables from […]

Paradise Found…The Cook Islands

Rarotonga in the Cook Islands has a population of approximately 13,000 people and we were really looking forward to spending time within this island community and sharing our shark conservation work with people that are surrounded by the ocean and different shark species on a daily basis.

We arrived after our week in Vancouver to glorious […]
